Today was our last day of the walking tour. The official walk was 13 miles long and finished in Ludlow at the spot we started four days ago. I only walked 11 miles, though, then Shirley and Mary picked me so we could head north to Meredith, New Hampshire for the next part of our trip. After a day in Meredith, we’ll spend a day and a half in Camden, Maine before we head home.
I highly recommend the Vermont Inn-to-Inn walking tour. While the walking is very pleasant, it’s the four B&B’s and their wonderful hosts that make the trip so much fun. We got to enjoy four distinctly different lodging experiences and also got to know our fellow hikers really well, just like on the Camino.
This is my last post until August 22. That’s the day I head off to Portugal for another Camino. This time I’ll be walking about 360 miles from Lisbon to Santiago de Compostela. And, no, Mary and Shirley will not be on that journey. The blog will get back to the thing that really matters, me.

Chester Stone Village
As I walked out of Chester this morning, I walked through the “stone village.” This is the oldest part of Chester, about a half a mile away from the town’s current location.

The Ballard House
Our lodging in Meredith is the Ballard House. It’s anther beautiful B&B. Unlike the walking tour, we’ll have to go into town for dinner, but that will give us an opportunity to explore.

Shirley’s and Mary’s Day
Not much today for our intrepid travelers. They lounged at the B&B, visited the hanging bridge, then drove to pick up me up on the trail. The rest of their vacation will be spent with me. Lucky them!
Next Stop Camden, Maine
Tomorrow, we’ll head to Maine where will spend a couple of days before coming home. Our home base will be Camden which I visited back in my senior year of college in 1984. Back then, my friend Whit, his father and I rented a sailboat and sailed up and down the Maine coast for a week. It’s been 40 years, so I’m anxious to see the town again. In the photos below… Whit’s Dad is in stripes, I’m in short shorts, and Whit is in red. Whit lives in Brazil now, and I think he checks this blog every so often. Great memories!

Bill – thanks for sharing. Again, you walk too far for me. Gre
I love reading your trip updates, since I live through you vicariously.
Great adventure, thanks for sharing and including the girls. I think they should do the same in Portugal.
