Day 31 – A Armenteira

It was one of the toughest and best days so far. My Garmin said 16 miles and over 2000 feet of climbing. The views were great, and we felt a real sense of satisfaction when we got to our finishing town.

As we left Pontevedra in the morning, we were in a sea of pilgrims, but after a few miles we turned onto the “Spiritual Variant” of the Camino, while 90% of the pilgrims took the other route.

According to the legend, the bones of Saint James were transported to their eventual resting place via part of this route. That’s why it has the name “spiritual.” Most pilgrims don’t go this way because it’s very hilly and longer than going directly to Santiago,

We had a little rain today, but nothing serious.

Combarro

Before the climb, we walked through the beautiful seaside town of Combarro. It had fun little streets and was lively with tourists. Hundreds of locals were out by the waterline hunting for clams. We learned that after they collect the clams, they must turn them into an official who is stationed on shore.
