Day 32 – San Quirico d’Orcia

I’m back in vineyards. This time in Brunello wine country.

Brunello is made with 100% Sangiovese grapes and it is considered one of the world’s great wines.

I walked by many vineyards offering tastings, but I showed restraint. Well, until the evening, when I helped a table of pilgrims finish a bottle.

I saw many signs for vineyards and wine tastings throughout the day
Cypress trees are seen all over Tuscany
Nearly every large estate features cypress trees up their drive
I had lunch in Torrenieri which is visible in the distance
San Quirico d’Orcia is one my favorite towns that I’ve visited so far. Pictured: the view from our table.

  1. I don’t know how you can pass up wine tastings!  Especially Brunello.
    One of my faves!

You make me miss Europe and we just got back from Croatia 13 days ago?
Lots of Cypress trees there too.

Hope you are enjoying the Passeggiata

  2. Looks like a lovely place for a bit of solitude, some contemplation, and fellowship with pilgrims. I’m glad you are continuing to enjoy your experience, and I’m thrilled you are sharing it with us. Kari

  3. I note the ashtrays on the cafe tables in San Quirico d’Orcia. Are there a lot of smokers in restaurants and other public places? Is it only outdoors?

    1. It’s the worst thing about Europe. Lots of smokers. Only outside, fortunately. Usually you can choose a seat away from the smokers, but occasionally you’ll be enjoying sitting at a table in the piazza and someone lights up.
