Day 7 – Pamplona

The three amigos were back together today for a 15.0 mile walk to Pamplona.

Today’s stage is often considered one of the less scenic of the Camino. You walk by a factory, along several roads and through the urban outskirts of Pamplona. Even so, all of us loved today’s hike.

During the last hour or so it rained, but it didn’t phase us at all.

Pamplona is one of my favorite towns on the Camino. Lots of cafes and bars. Nice pedestrian-only streets and interesting architecture.

Our apartment is right on the main town square right above Cafe Iruna, Hemingway’s favorite Pamplona hangout.

We stopped at one of my favorite cafes on the Camino. Its lively, friendly and located in a beautiful spot on the river.
Here’s one of the ugly sights on today’s trail… a magnesium factory. (The Camino isn’t all Instagram selfie spots.)
There was lots of pretty as well.
And some steep climbs too.
In the town of Arre next to Pamplona they were setting up barriers, apparently for their own running of the bulls.

We had a great lunch in Pamplona that included paella and hongo mushrooms (a local specialty only this time of year). For dinner, Carol and I went out for tapas.
The evening streets of Pamplona were full of people. It was like a party.
I took a series of very short videos over the course of the day. The goal was to create a time lapse to show you what it’s like walking the Camino. It’s a bit long but some of you may enjoy it.

    1. Yes. Vuelta went through Navarrenx right after we left, and Pamplona right before we got there. So close but yet so far. I watch every night though. Best Vuelta ever this year. Go Sepp!!

      1. I watch the Tour de France every year and decided to watch the Vuelta this year too. What an exciting race!! Go Sepp, indeed!! (And, the helicopter shots of Spain are sooo gorgeous!)

  2. Thank you for the great video. When you get to a crossroads or a town/city, are there directional signs to keep you on the trail?

    1. Definitely. Yellow arrows and shells. The direction is clearly 95% of the time. We have a map app to help us when its not clear.

  5. I too enjoyed the video. A couple of times watching your sisters, their footfalls were in perfect synch. A pleasure to watch. How bonding for all of you! Love those Roman arches. It’s an original Roman bridge yes?

    BTW, your voice was my best companion when we were driving thru Greece. Whoa, don’t pass this truck!
