Day 8 – Puenta la Reina

Today was the longest scheduled hike of this Camino. 16 miles. It included 1800 feet of climbing.

Carol was the strongest hiker today. My legs were really tired during the last few miles.

Q: Do your sisters ever make you mad?

Um, of course. Today, I was waiting for them at the bottom of the big downhill. After about 15 minutes, I started worrying about them. Did someone trip on the rocks? Their phones were off, so I had no choice but climb back up the hill to find them. After a few minutes of climbing I asked a gentleman from New Zealand if he had seen them. He said “Yes, they’re sitting down eating chips.” They’ll pay for this.

Q: Do you ever make your sisters mad?

No.

The Jardines de la Taconera on our way out of Pamplona.
University of Navarra as we left Pamplona.
Today’s trail was a long gradual uphill but got steeper near the top.
Snack break. Bonus points if you recognize this spot from “The Way.”
Looking back towards Pamplona from near the top of our climb.
Alto de Perdón (Hill of Forgiveness).
Looking out toward the second half of today’s hike.
Salute to pilgrims in Uterga.
Carol and Ann making the last climb of the day into Obanos.
The final descent into Puente la Reina. We were pretty tired by this point. Well, I was. Carol was the Energizer bunny.
The bridge for which Puente la Reina gets its name.
Ann found this rock, and she is going to keep pestering me until I put it on the blog. I say its just a rock. She says its a sign from above.
Climbing and descending.

    1. There are a handful that go the other way, but its rare.

BTW… there is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people.

  1. Hi Bill. Thank you for sharing this adventure once again. I think it is wonderful that your sisters joined you this year. Looks like Shirley and Julie are having a wonderful time on their adventure.

  2. Ok Bill, I’ve seen The Way several times your photo can’t be the free wine, that’s after Estella. I give up, do tell.

    1. It’s the spot where Sarah is sitting when Joost and Tom come around this corner. “I love this guy.” “It wears off quickly.”
