Day 19 – Porto

Porto is a wonderful town. The riverfront is a treasure. Beautiful views. Lively atmosphere. Fun restaurants. It’s my second time here, and I’m happy to be back.

Today’s Walk

The guidebook suggests a 20 mile stage today. Um, no. I took a cab and shortened the walk to 7 miles. Much better since I did 19 yesterday.

The first few miles were on an old Roman road and were quite lovely. The rest were more urban as I approached Porto. Then bang… the last few steps over the walking bridge into Porto are fantastic with world class views.

Best Camino view ever?

As I approached Porto over the foot bridge, I thought… “This must be one of the best views on any Camino.”

For fun, I went back in my photos and found a few of the best views I’ve seen in my Caminos. I could have picked 50. The view of Porto from the bridge definitely deserves a spot high on the list.

The Pilgrims

The pilgrims I met in the last few days… Cheryl (NYC), Bret (Australia), Thomas (Denmark)
The pilgrims for the second half are starting to arrive… Cyrene, Tess and Rory. We had a blast at dinner down by the river. Karen arrives tonight. Beth in a couple days.

Tomorrow is a rest day as my friends get accustomed to the time and we do a little sightseeing.

  1. Amazing and I love that you’ve kept in touch with others that you’ve met along the way. Enjoy your rest day and a cab rid for sure sounds like a great “let me listen to my body and make good choices” move!

  2. Thank you for sharing the incredible photos, present (Porto) and past Camino photos. Wishing you a journey filled with joy.
