Day 20 – Porto (Rest Day)

Porto is one of Europe’s gems, and a wonderful place to spend a rest day.

I started the morning at the laundromat (clean clothes!) and then toured the Porto Cathedral. In the afternoon, I met up with the crew. We had lunch followed by wine tasting followed by site seeing followed by dinner. The best rest day ever.

It feels like I’m starting a brand new Camino. I’m full of energy.

Wine Tasting

Across the river from Porto is the town of Gaia. It’s the home of many of the world’s best Port wine makers. After lunch, we did a wine tasting. Most of us avoided the Port wine and focused on the other wines. We spent a couple hours chatting and sipping, and considered canceling our Camino and just going on vacation together. Ultimately, we decided to still do the Camino, in part, to keep the blog followers happy.

Shells

Pilgrims wear scallop shells on their backpacks. Cyrene was nice enough to get us new shells for this Camino. A new shell for a new experience. We even had our own silly shell service at the winery. I’ve already replaced my old shell with the new one on my backpack.

Tomorrow

In the morning, we’ll set off together, although we don’t expect to walk together the whole time. We have about 14-15 miles to cover mostly along the ocean.

BTW… I did manage to watch the Lions last night. Kick-off was 1:30AM but I could sleep in, so no problem. Super Bowl or bust!

  1. If I know you, your original shell is in your back pack. Full of energy? Wow, what clean clothes do for some people. The PORT in Porto is delicious. I hope you do get to try it.
