Day 26 – Rubiães

Another beautiful day but this time with a gigantic hill. It was challenging but I loved it.

Beth, Tess and Rory headed out early in the morning to miss some of the heat (high of 87 today). Cyrene, Karen and I started later and walked about halfway together. Cyrene decided to skip the hill via cab, then Karen and I each climbed the hill independently at our own pace.

Near the end of the hike, we all reunited at a cafe for lunch and drinks with many other pilgrims. It was a very festive scene because as each new pilgrim arrived everyone at the cafe cheered their success getting over the hill.

The Hill

Here are the stats on our walk today.

It got really steep at the end. My heart rate at the end of the climb was hovering in the 160s. (Myresting heart rate is about 56).

Dogs!

As we were walking today there were really loud dogs. We think they were hunting but sounded like a gigantic kennel.

  1. When I read “Dogs!” after that chart of your elevation gain I thought you were talking about your feet. I think I’d be howling about my dogs after a day like that. You continue to inspire. When I’m as old as you I hope to be able to follow in your footsteps.
