Over the last 4 weeks, I have walked 300 miles and crossed most of Portugal. At the end of today, I entered into Spain. In about 100 miles (7 days), I’ll be Santiago.
Our walk today finished with two nice towns. The first was Valença, Portugal. It’s a medieval walled city with its fortress still intact. Beautiful and interesting.
We finished the day across the river from Valença in Tui, Spain. According to good old Wikipedia, this area has been inhabited from prehistoric times due to the fertile river valley. It’s been a viable city for at least 2000 years. The Cathedral that dominates the old town was built around 1100. My hotel is in a beautiful old refurbished building not too far from the Cathedral.
Over all, it was another great day. Glad to be in Spain for a change of pace. Karen is excited since she’s fluent in Spanish.

Have you enjoyed being with your friends on this portion of the Camino?
Absolutely! This last week has been my favorite week ever on the Camino. We’ve had so much fun together.
When you walk a long Camino with someone, you see their best and worst. Which means these folks have seen all my annoying characteristics like my impatience, hyperactivity, and selfishness. Yet, they like being around me, although often, it’s just to make fun of me. 🙂
It’s crazy how one can get to know each other so quickly out here. It’s the magic of the Camino.
I love these people. I’m so thankful we were brought together on the Camino.
Congrats on making it to Spain. Expecting some tapas photos. Sounds like Camino-ing with friends is the way to go.
loved the creepy tunnel picture the best. Like something from a movie!
congrats on Spain.
what are you feeling upon contemplating you will finish the Camino soon?
Like last time, I’m ready to be finished but I’ll miss this experience so much.
