Day 28 – O Porriño

We’ve entered “The Pilgrim Zone.”

There are 4-5 times more pilgrims on the trail than just a few days ago. Why? Because we’re near the 100km to Santiago mark, and to have your pilgrimage recognized by the church, you must walk at least 100km (or bike 200km).

Even with the influx of new non-stinky non-scraggily pilgrims, there is still plenty of room to walk your own pace and enjoy the countryside.

Wildfires

If you’ve been following my walk, you know there hasn’t been any rain in this area for a while. Unfortunately, wildfires have been breaking out across Portugal.

Right now all the fires are south of us. Several areas that I walked through earlier are now closed. We could see smoke in the distance from the last two hotels.

Fwiw… Chance of rain Friday and Saturday.

My favorite towns

I’m a list maker, so here is my current ranking of the top towns I’ve visited on this Camino (with 6 more to go, so list could change)…

  1. Tomar. Super cute river town.
  2. Porto. Wonderful waterfront.
  3. Coimbra. Cute college town on hill.
  4. Barcelos.
  5. Tui (Spain).
  6. Santarém.

  1. I’m always curious about packing! Have you found that your packing has been on point and that you’re using all that you’ve packed, or, have you packed too much/not enough? As I shared with you about our trip to Italy, we both only had back packs and full access to washers, but tried to be diligent with not over packing (and failed a little). How is your experience this trip as it’s your third time?
