Day 2 – Aigle

Today was the tale of 2 hikes.

First half was fantastic. Second half, not so much.

The first half went along the lake through charming towns on a beautiful promenade. The highlight was Montreux (famous for its international jazz festival). It’s stunning with a well manicured waterfront and interesting architecture.

As for the second half… blah. The guide book said “it’s a long slog.” Yep, that’s right.

FWIW… I took 78 photos on the first half and 11 on the second half. Many of the 78 were beautiful. None of the 11 were.

2 miles from the finish we had a choice, either a shorter flat route or a longer very steep route. That’s no choice. We were tired. Shorter won
Despite a forecast of rain, we had a beautiful sunny day
The Château de Chillon
Montreux promenade
The Montreux Palace Hotel
Some rich person’s boat. Lots of rich people in Montreux.
Joseph from France enjoying a choice lunch spot. He’s the only other pilgrim we’ve met. We met him yesterday. He’s on the same schedule as us so we’ll likely see him each day.
If I could do it over again, I would spend the night in Montreux

The promenade is decorated with dozens and dozens of statues. It made the beautiful walk even more entertaining…

Example of the 2nd half of hike. Blah.

Today’s Data:

Starting temp: 63

Finishing temp: 69

Total distance: 15.8 miles.

Vertical climbing: Only 335 feet. Thank God.

Accidentally divided the walk into two entries on my watch…
