Today’s hike was a bit easier than yesterday, but the higher altitude and the constant uphill kept our hearts racing. The views were wonderful again.
A little history for you blog readers…
In May of 1800, Napoleon led his Army of 40,000 men over the Great St. Bernard Pass into Italy. In Italy, they surprised the Austrian army and won a great victory.
Napoleon and his army followed the route we are following and they camped in this village the night before they reached the pass. Our hotel is called “Bivouac Napoleon Hotel” in remembrance of their stay here.
This area is generally covered in snow 9 months a year. July, August and September are the only months when the snow is usually gone. It’s amazing they were able to make the climb at all, but especially in the snow.

Makes Corning’s rolling hills look like toys.
I could have used some training in those rolling hills. SE Michigan is mostly flat.
The views are so beautiful! I love getting the sounds of your environment as well as the gorgeous photos. Thank you for bringing us along on your journey.
Your journeys are truly magnificent.
If Scott needs any encouragement, a swift shot to the kidney will keep him going.

BW—so glad you are feeling good. Hate to break it to you, but Napoleon was not one of our heroes….empire ego, dude.
