Day 31 – Buonconvento

Walking alone again.

I miss my pilgrim friends but the transition to a solo Camino was easier than expected today.

Q: What’s the most beautiful route you’ve walked in Europe?

There are beautiful stages on every Camino but the walks through the Alps and Cinque Terre/Tuscany stand out as the most consistently beautiful. Just day after day of amazing scenery.

Close behind would be the first few weeks of walking in central France near Le Puy. Also, a ton of great days back-to-back.

That said, I have loved all the routes. They each have their own charm and outstanding sights.

A tree with a cross dominated the view early in the walk
Most of the fields for the first half of the hike were plowed over and brown. I bet these were really stunning a few weeks ago before the harvest.
Monteroni d’Arbia
A lovely bench for a break. Considered taking a nap.
Second half of hike was more lush than first half
Almost all the hike was on peaceful gravel roads
I guess communists like pasta too
A lovely farm near Buenconvento
Buonconvento
Today’s lunch. Not as fancy as some others, but there was only one place to stop today. Nonetheless, this hit the spot.

  1. I know it’s only been one day but do you find yourself walking faster or slower? Taking more breaks or less breaks? I’m sure it’s a different feeling being on your own and I’m curious how much talking to yourself you have been doing 🙂

    1. I’ve been trying to learn for the past year. I know a lot of words but can’t really put together sentences.

  2. Bill all of the views have been beautiful. I love hearing about your walk. Thank a for sharing! Enjoy each day!

  3. Bill, I’m sure you did a lot of planning with maps stateside, before the trip, but what’s your day-to-day like? Do you have paper maps or is everything digital? Do you rely a lot on Google Maps or some other mapping system during the day? Some of those are pretty small tracks you are on. Do you ever find yourself wondering if you are going the right way when you are out in the middle of the countryside?
